2011 Indie Lit Awards - Nominations Are Now Open!

It's September 1st (really? already? wow!), which means the 2011 edition of the Indie Lit Awards is now open for nominations. You have until December 31st to make your nominations, but it never hurts to get started early - after all, the sooner you get your favorite reads out there, the sooner everybody else can start reading them!

The nominations are open to all readers (not just bloggers), provided they do not make their income through the sales of books. That means authors, publishers, and publicists are not eligible - hence, the concept of an 'independant' literary award. Nominations can be made in the following categories:

Biography/Memoir
GLBTQ
Literary Fiction
Mystery
Non-Fiction
Poetry
Speculative Fiction

The only rule is that the book must have a 2011 release date. Each reader can nominate up to 5 books in each genre. The books with the most nominations will make the 'Long List' so don't worry if your favourites have already been nominated - that's a good thing!

If you are a blogger, please consider helping to promote the awards by posting about program, posting your nominations, adding a badge to your blog, or doing whatever you can to get the word out.

I'm a Voting Member this year for the Speculative Fiction category, which means I won't be nominating (just reading the Long List!), but I can share with you a few reads that caught my eye so far this year:
